Rams and 49ers lead the NFL with five back-to-back draft picks

The NFL announced on Tuesday which teams will receive compensatory draft picks this year, and the two NFC West teams that played for the conference title earlier this year received the most picks.

The Rams and 49ers will each add five picks to their draft capital. The Rams’ four picks were the result of five players leaving on free agency last offseason. The other choice comes as the Lions hired Brad Holmes as their general manager in 2021, and the league is awarding two compensatory picks to teams that have minority candidates hired for head coach or general manager positions.

Holmes’ departure led to a compensatory third-round pick. The 49ers added two of them because Robert Saleh became head coach of the Jets and Martin Mayhew became general manager in Washington. This led to three third-round picks in three years, and they added another after Mike McDaniel took over as head coach for the Dolphins this offseason.

The Chargers received four compensatory picks, with the Lions receiving the highest compensatory pick at No. 97 overall. The complete list of collections is as follows:
