The announcement of Rocky’s charges comes on the same day that Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon survived a second recall attempt.

In a region plagued by rising crime rates and brazen robberies and home invasions, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascn has been accused of criminal justice reforms that critics said have fueled lawlessness, which the chief prosecutor denied.

The failed attempt comes after San Francisco voters recalled another prominent California criminal justice reformer, District Attorney Chesa Boudin, in June.

It was the second attempt to qualify for a recall election that could remove Gascón, after a first attempt failed last year.

“The criminal justice reform movement in Los Angeles has taken off because this is a community that prefers facts to misplaced fear,” said Cristine Soto DeBerry, executive director of the Prosecutors Alliance, which promotes reform, in a statement.

In a tweet, Gascón wrote that he was “grateful to be putting this attempt at political power behind him.”
