The famous American rapper Snoop Dogg, whose image is inextricably linked with his love for marijuana, surprised his fans on Thursday by announcing that he would quit smoking.
“After much consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided to quit smoking. Please respect my privacy at this time,” he posted on his social media.
The 52-year-old Californian artist with the legendary nonchalance did not say whether he only meant giving up tobacco or also cannabis.
Many of his fans reacted skeptically to the announcement, saying it was a joke, while others were worried about the star’s possible health problems.
His manager was contacted by AFP and did not immediately respond.
Snoop Dogg rose to fame with his solo album “Doggystyle,” which was released in the early 1990s by hip-hop star Dr. Dre was produced.
The rapper has sold millions of albums around the world thanks to several hits such as “Gin & Juice” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot”.
The singer, who is known to employ a professional joint roller, has also done business with the cannabis industry, which is now legal in many US states.
