Iggy Azalea’s full letter in support of Tory Lanez has been revealed – which she wrote to a judge before he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion.
Australian-born Azalea, 33, told the judge that she “talks to Lanez all the time” and that the rapper started an evening prayer group with his fellow inmates in prison this week ahead of his sentencing.
But today she was slammed by her fans for the kind letter demanding a sentence that was “converting and not life-destroying,” court reporter Meghann Cuniff revealed.
The letter, written in February and unsealed by journalist Cuniff after the trial ended, said: “I would not write to you on behalf of a perpetrator.”

Azalea said she was a victim of sexism and abuse during her successful career in the music industry.
She added, “In fact, that’s exactly why I feel it’s imperative to share my point of view as a woman in music: in regards to Daystar Peterson.”
“You are leading his case and it would mean a lot to me if you could let me know why Tory Lanez is a far cry from your average rap star.”
Lanez took no position at his own trial, leading Azalea to write, “The unfortunate side effect of his choice is that he has been portrayed in the most unrecognizable way to you, the jury and the public.”
“I’ve seen him defuse so many sticky situations with kindness and humor that he’s the last to lose his composure.”
“I’ve never met this jealous, angry person who is accused of being him.” I know him as someone who is always bursting with happiness. If you call Daystar in the moments when you want to cry, he will find a way to make you laugh.”
She revealed that she took it upon herself to hire six of his staff while he was in prison and as a result they were not paid.

It continued, “I hope you consider a phrase that allows this to be transformative and not life-destroying.” Not just for Daystar, but for his family, his son, and the countless others who depend on him are committed to helping them reach their full potential.
She said if Lanez is allowed to stay in the US after his sentencing, she would hire the Canadian-born as executive producer for her next album.
She asked the judge to “kindly consider a sentence that does not require deportation.”
The singer revealed in the newly opened letter, “He leads a prayer group every night and is already strengthening others during his time in prison.” When we spoke last week, he even told me he was glad God put him in prison have.
“He said this is an opportunity to humble himself and soften his heart – it’s ironic to hear how one of the nicest people I know strives to be even kinder.”
“I’m not shocked – it’s who he is!” “Watering and illuminating others with light until something beautiful grows.”
The letter continues, “I have never seen him lose his temper or raise his voice to a woman.” He has always shown me great respect and I refuse to believe that he would do anything evil, especially to a woman.”
The 31-year-old chauffeur-rapper was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday afternoon in Los Angeles – and Azalea wrote an impassioned tweet response after her letter was published – claiming the note was “not that interesting” and that her words were ” been sensational.’
Azalea’s letter was one of more than 70 submissions that were part of the defense’s judgment package.
The team artist took to Twitter to share her take with her millions of fans earlier this week.
“For the record: 1. I haven’t been in touch with the Tories for months, I have no reason to but I wish him well,” she wrote as she began laying out her case.
‘2. I don’t “support” anyone. The whole thing is full of curiosities. “In my letter there was never any mention of what happened that night,” she explained.
‘3. I’ve been told this is for a judge only, but is it openly debated? “It was never my intention to speak out in public,” the Black Widow singer explained.
‘4. I’m not in favor of throwing ANY life away when we can inflict appropriate, rehabilitating punishments instead. I support prison reform. Period.
‘5. I was asked to write about my real experience and the kind of punishment I felt he deserved: I did. It’s not really interesting, but I understand why it’s sensationalized. . . ‘ adding, ‘See you next week to talk pizza toppings I suppose.’ Lol.’
About 20 minutes after releasing her five-point statement, the Billboard Music Award winner reiterated her point, writing, “I really hate that this is the discourse on the internet today because it’s not a really explosive disclosure.”
She maintained her stance: “Yes, he should be held accountable,” but insisted that “the charges do not warrant a 5-plus sentence.”
“Most would agree with that opinion because it’s a reasonable attitude.” “That’s not news,” she concluded.
Fans reacted angrily, writing, “Iggy Azalea is angry that her support of an abusive man has been made public.” She’s fine when an abusive man walks the streets. She saw an abusive man harass and taunt his victim and she thinks he should have mercy.’
Lanez was convicted of three felonies: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, having a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and gross negligence in firing a firearm.
He has been behind bars since his conviction in December and faces a maximum sentence of almost 23 years. Prosecutors asked for 13 years in prison, but the judge handed down a 10-year sentence.
Prosecutors called for a harsh sentence not only because of the shooting, but because they said Lanez showed no remorse.
“Except for the prison sentence and his apology texts to the victim in July 2020, the defendant has since spent nearly three years conducting a disinformation campaign to re-traumatize the victim,” they wrote in a 12-page sentencing memo to the court .

Lanez apologized just before the judge announced his verdict.
“If I could change it, I would, but I can’t,” he said.
“I take full responsibility for everything I did that night,” adding, “I’m really just trying to be a better person.”
The defense had called for a suspended sentence and the The Take rapper’s placement in rehab for alcohol addiction and therapy for “childhood trauma.”
They plan to appeal the verdict.
Megan Thee Stallion, real name Megan Pete, did not show up for Monday’s sentencing hearing, saying she couldn’t bear to be in the same room with Lanez.
A statement she wrote was read in court by an assistant district attorney.
“I haven’t seen a single day of peace since I was brutally shot by the accused,” she revealed.
“Slowly but surely I’m recovering and coming back, but I’ll never be the same.”
