Real Madrid says goodbye to the Champions League

DirectChronicle

Real Madrid bows out of the Champions League with two games remaining in a group stage in which it barely has a point from a possible twelve. They failed (0-1) against Paris FC, whom they outplayed rather than dominated in a demanding back-and-forth duel that left them too exposed because the Galas did not shy away from close combat. On the contrary, they applied high pressure and created an alternative game in which they found more scoring opportunities. However, Madrid had it: Olga Carmona hit the crossbar before half-time.

But Paris was more of a team and had the ability to take the game on the opponent's field. Bourdieu hit one of the white goalposts with a shot after a quarter of an hour. The highly experienced Thiney took the lead against an opponent who lacked the skill to circulate the ball and the fangs to quickly find and fire off his attackers.

After the break, Clara Matéo opened the scoring for the Parisians with a shot past Misa that sent them flying high and left the dodgy Merengue defense exposed. Then Toril wanted to dodge. The White coach, in doubt after the fiasco, called Toletti, Linda Caicedo and Feller, who were on the bench in cotton wool after a month-long break due to various injuries.

More information

Madrid gained strength and made the feint of galloping with Feller and Athenea moved from the left to the right flank. Some giggles from Caicedo caused a stir in the stands, but Paris found space to respond and although Misa kept his team in the game, the final penalty came with a penalty from Oroz, which Thiney converted Panenka-style. With fifteen minutes left to play, Madrid did not have the resources to formulate a response and will once again finish below expectations in their European campaign.
