A new crisis has hit motorists using the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge since the loss of a lane due to the appearance of a new crack was announced.

Starting November 27, three of the six lanes will be open to traffic for at least a year.
“Dynamic traffic management” is guaranteed by the Quebec Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, confirmed its spokesperson Sarah Bensadoun in an interview on LCN.
Between 00:00 and 09:30 there are two lanes towards Montreal and one lane towards Vaudreuil-Dorion.
Between 11:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. “it will be the opposite scenario, the rest of the time we will have one lane in each direction.”
The new configuration will force the artery to close from 11:59 p.m. Friday, November 24th to 5 a.m. on Monday, November 27th.
“We have to be extremely patient because the journey across the bridge will be long and very complicated. We understand that there may be delays of more than an hour at times. The next year won’t be easy. We are fully aware of this,” she continued.

The news sparked strong reactions among residents of Vaudreuil-Dorion and Saint-Lazare in Montérégie.
Comments mounted following Liberal MP Marie-Claude Nichols’ publication reporting on the bridge’s total closure this weekend.
“What negligence in planning the lifespan of infrastructure…we are all paying for the incompetence of the MTQ,” wrote Frederic Bernier.
“Taking the 20 from Hardwood Boulevard would be very helpful. But no. No intelligent planning. Real nonsense,” continues another user on Facebook.
The latter refers to the section of the A-20 in L’Île-Perrot that has traffic lights.
Ms. Bensadoun claims that the ministry will “synchronize traffic lights, especially during peak periods, to ease traffic flow.”

Transport company Exo plans to add at least two train departures on the Vaudreuil-Hudson route.
The new bridge, which will replace the current structure, will be brought into operation gradually from the end of 2026, with the work scheduled to end in 2030.
