“And even if it wasn’t my father, I would probably think that too. I think it's stunning. He's still a man who [se permet] a freedom. There aren't that many anymore, nobody dares to say anything anymore. He says things,” emphasized Julie Depardieu in an interview with CNews on Monday, as 7sur7 reported.

On Monday, the 50-year-old actress agreed to an interview in which she denounced the treatment of her father, now dubbed the “holy monster of French cinema” after shocking remarks by Gérard Depardieu resurfaced several years ago during a filming in a documentation.

The 74-year-old actor is also the subject of complaints of sexual assault and rape, which are reportedly still under investigation.

But despite the seriousness of his “scandalous” statements, according to François Legault, which, in particular, earned the actor the loss of his title of the National Order of Quebec as well as a disciplinary procedure of the Order of the French Legion of Honor that could lead to the same result, his daughter recalled, that it wasn't a crime.

On Monday evening, the city of Brussels would have followed suit and withdrawn a medal of recognition awarded to him in June 2018 for his entire career, while his wax statue would also have been removed from the Grévin Museum in Paris.

“It wasn't Bertrand Cantat who killed someone on a radiator… These are words, slightly shocking words. […] If I'm filming at your house, I'm sure when I edit it I'll be shocked at all the stupid things people can say in private,” she continued in an interview.

The woman acknowledged that her father can sometimes be “rude” and “stubborn” to the point of making her “scarlet,” and described him as someone who is “extremely humble” and “very respectful of his children,” according to the Belgian Media.

“I respect the presumption of innocence and am not imagining it at all [qu’il soit coupable]. I can’t believe this,” she concluded, according to 7sur7.
