Record-breaking roller coaster simulates falling off a cliff at 155 mph

A theme park in Saudi Arabia has unveiled a new roller coaster that is expected to be the tallest and fastest in the world when visitors take their first ride next year.

The giant roller coaster called “Falcon’s Flight” is located at Six Flags Qiddiya – a theme park being developed near Riyadh as part of the country’s Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to promote the economic, social and cultural diversification of the Kingdom of Saudi -To promote Arabia. The park is expected to open in October 2024.

According to Intamin, the roller coaster’s designer and manufacturer, the Falcon’s Flight roller coaster will be 650 feet tall and reach top speeds of 155 miles per hour on a 13,000-foot track. One of his biggest drops is designed to mimic falling over a cliff.

The current title of tallest roller coaster in the world is the Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.

The Falcon’s Flight’s top speed of 155 miles per hour will break the Formula Rossa world record at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, which has a top speed of 150 miles per hour.

It will also set the world record for longest roller coaster, surpassing the more than 8,100-foot-long track of the Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land, Japan.

The Falcon’s Flight will be nearly a mile longer than the Steel Dragon 2000 – a length that requires three different electromagnetic propulsion systems that keep the coaster moving throughout the nearly 2.5-mile ride.
