This Saturday (17th) Record TV spoke about the negotiations for a new contract for Rodrigo Faro. Last week Leo Dias of the newspaper Metrópoles revealed that the channel would try to drastically cut the presenter’s salary, currently around R$ 1.2 million per month.
With an agreement signed by December 31 of this year, the salary proposal sent to Faro would be R$ 300,000 per month for 2023, plus commercial measures. The broadcaster’s goal would be to close a new value at least 75% below what it’s receiving today.
Solicited by Ricardo Feltrin’s column about UOL, the company said it’s already in dialogue with the São Paulo native and ruled out scouting other names to fill his post. “The only remaining negotiation is the extension of Rodrigo Faro’s contract,” he revealed.
On Friday, the same journalist said that The Voice Kids’ newcomer Marcio Garcia was one of the names the network was considering replacing Rodrigo. Despite a contract with TV Globo until 2024, Garcia will have no great difficulty “mutually breaking the agreement” after being kicked out of the talent show, Feltrin said. Nevertheless, the break has not yet been officially confirmed. Interestingly, in 2008, in which he presented the successful “O Melhor do Brasil”, Márcio left Record for Globo, and was replaced by Faro.
Also according to Feltrin, Record had not contacted Rodrigo to discuss a possible extension until Friday (16th). The former actor is one of the most important names in the network of Edir Macedo’s station, where he has been working for 14 years. However, his super salary would be considered too high for television parameters, especially in a postpandemic scenario.

However, the columnist guarantees that Record looked for at least one other moderator: Faustão. The veteran is said to have met with company bosses in São Paulo when he was asked about a possible change of residence. The exGlobal is currently with Band, with whom he has a contract until 2024. Although Faustão was also wanted by SBT, Guilherme, Silva’s son, guarantees that he will stay with the current channel.
While surprising, Record’s behavior in lastminute contract negotiations would not be entirely unusual. The tactic of leaving its pros free to compete and finding them with only 48 hours to go is part of the channel’s costcontainment strategy. If the artist in this situation has not yet closed with any other channel, the company is welcome to propose values significantly lower than previous payrolls.
