NEW YORK (AP) — Television's top networks brought the silver carpet to life in color Monday at the strike-postponed 75th Emmy Awards, competing with a sea of black, including a 3-D sculpted black look for Ayo Edebiri and glittering chartreuse for Rhea Seehorn.
Edebiri from “The Bear” wore a strapless custom Louis Vuitton dress. It was molded to her body and reached above her ankle. “We're kidnapped and loving it,” she told E!

Riley Keough also opted for black as the classic color made for bright colors at the 2023 Emmys.
“Black is often considered a 'safe' color, but a trend emerged tonight? “Pieces that complicated this idea with a focus on shape, texture, or transparency, like Riley Keough in semi-sheer Chanel, Ayo Edebiri in custom Louis Vuitton with an intriguing onion-like shape, and Jenna Lyons, who follows the sheer trend like only she can can,” she told Veronique Hyland, fashion director of Elle and author of the book “Dress Code.”

Niecy Nash-Betts went all-out Old Hollywood black wearing a Greta Constantine mermaid-style velvet body hugger with a flounced hem. She paired it with matching satin ruffled opera gloves at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles when she won an Emmy for her work on Dahmer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

SPARKLE, SPARKLE AND MORE SPARKLE
Seehorn from “Better Call Saul” was in the paint camp, her sequins sparkling on her long-sleeve, high-neck Naeem Khan dress. When it comes to red carpets, she told The Associated Press, she's not concerned with things “falling out.” The ability to use the toilet is another fashion requirement.
“I love dressing up,” she said.
She had a chartreuse (or possibly lemon?) sister in Jessica Chastain, who wore custom Gucci by Sabato De Sarno. It was decorated with sequins and beaded fringe.

“I loved how she paired it with an earring in a different shade of green. She looked like a disco queen,” said Cassie Anderson, fashion director of Cosmopolitan.
Hollywood's duel last year delayed the big TV night and caused a stir in the fashion industry this awards season. There were metallics, florals and, yes, trains.
Dominique Fishback was feeling it in a light blue Miu Miu halter dress with a plunging neckline and wide train. Joy Sunday was feeling it in an upbeat white off-shoulder pants look with two pairs of long pants behind her. Like Tom Colicchio in a red velvet jacket.

Cristo Fernández divided the color difference into two tones: a brown jacket with black accents and trousers.
IS RED THE NEW BARBIE PINK?
Abbott Elementary's Janelle James was among the stars who chose red.
“It’s Rodarte. “I just learned how to say that,” James laughed. Her jewelry, including a teardrop pendant, was by Fred Leighton.

Sarah Snook also wore red by Vivienne Westwood. Her thin straps were slightly off the shoulder and the skirt of her dress was wide and draped. Meghann Fahy's red Giorgio Armani Privé look featured rosettes that skimmed her strapless neckline. Heavily pregnant Suki Waterhouse closed the fashion game in an open-sided red Valentino.
“Red was a big classic on the Golden Globes carpet and also at the Emmys, like very classic vampire-inspired reds,” said Maggie Coughlan, senior editor at Vanity Fair. “Summer felt like Barbie pink, and I don't know if red is a reaction to that. It's kind of the next big trend we're seeing because it's almost pink but still very elegant. It's like baby pink has had its moment and we're ready for another bold color,” she said.
Camila Morrone wore a bright red Versace look.
“I liked the '90s references in this look. “The simplicity of the silhouette and the gathered train,” said Cosmopolitan’s Anderson.
Still sticking with pink? Claire Danes was in the pink lager in a vintage Balmain style with a crisscross back and chunky stones at the shoulders.

Issa Rae sipped a neutral champagne and let her feathers do the talking. They fluttered across the carpet over her embroidered, ornate tulle kaftan. The look comes from Pamella Roland.
“We are having a pearl moment. We have a little bit of sequins. Simply amazed. I felt like I wanted to give a little drama, you know,” she said.
FASHIONISTAS WERE FASHION
Hannah Waddingham, who rarely disappoints on a red carpet, stayed true to her fashion self wearing a plunging body skimmer in light green with glitter throughout. It was Custom Marchesa. Quinta Brunson, another fashion standout, wore soft pink with a small belt accent from Dior Couture. It was a little bit Old Hollywood and a little bit Betty Boop.

Ali Wong chose Louis Vuitton with a silver top and blue floral bottoms. The chunky trim on both caught the lights on the carpet. According to Hyland, Aubrey Plaza chose “funny” from the brand's spring-summer 2024 collection. The pale yellow column was topped with a bib and an oversized pin on the chest.
“It fit so well. I just loved it as soon as I put it on,” she said. Her Chopard jewels included a stately pair of chandelier earrings. On her feet she wore high black platform sandals. Since she sustained an injury, the heels stayed at home.
COLMAN DOMINGO DOES IT AGAIN
Colman Domingo wore a custom-made Louis Vuitton in black, two pearl bracelets on one wrist and a brooch on one lapel. He was a favorite of Yang-Yi Goh, style editor at GQ.

“Colman Domingo has looked great all awards season, and he did it again at the Emmys with some really nice accessories and a longer silhouette,” he said. “Donald Glover looked incredible. He took a big risk with this beautiful embroidered tuxedo jacket and some opera pumps, and I think it was really worth it.”

Jenna Ortega stunned in a strapless Dior with a shaped skirt featuring an elegant pastel pattern of floral appliqués. “That was the last dress I tried on. It's such a work of art. it literally stands on its own,” she said.

STUNNER FROM A SERIES OF FASHION HOUSES
Selena Gomez appeared in another eye-catcher from Oscar de la Renta. It was strapless with 450,000 ruby red sequins and a sheer base. One of the few statement jewelry pieces of the evening was her Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Bird on a Rock necklace with a 35-carat morganite center stone.

Among those who made black special: Jennifer Coolidge in Etro. It had long tulle sleeves decorated with pleated dahlia-print ruffles. Others taking a stroll in the garden included Simona Tabasco of The White Lotus in a stunning Marni look with huge collaged graphic flowers.
Among other men who stood out on the carpet: Host Anthony Anderson's black tuxedo jacket was decorated with a large red and green floral print on the sleeves and arms.

Kevin Huynh, InStyle's fashion director, saw plenty of romance in full force. He noticed that white stood out amidst black. Sheryl Lee Ralph chose a custom ivory tuxedo trumpet dress by Christian Siriano.
“Shimmering metallics also glowed throughout the night with Natasha Lyonne in Schiaparelli and Laverne Cox in vintage Thierry Mugler,” he said.
Huynh's conclusion: “The old-school Hollywood glamor is back.”
