A nearly naked woman took to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet to protest sexual violence against Ukrainian victims. Painted on her torso were the colors of the Ukrainian flag and the words “Stop raping us” (“Stop raping us”), and she wore red paint-stained panties.
The woman barged into the other guests during a film festival premiere last night and yelled “stop raping us” several times. Ukrainian activist group Femen claimed responsibility for the protest, as can be seen on their Instagram page.
Background is allegations of rape of Ukrainian civilians by the Russian army. Ukrainian Attorney General Iryna Venediktova and the human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) have recently made such allegations.
