According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, more patients will be brought from Al-Shifa hospital in the north of the Gaza Strip. The rescue service said 14 ambulances, accompanied by UN and Doctors Without Borders officials, arrived at the hospital today. Patients from the largest hospital on the isolated coastal strip and the injured would be taken to hospitals in the south.
Kidney patients will be taken to Abu Yusef Al-Najar Hospital in Rafah, while those injured in the war will be transported to the European Hospital in southern Khan Yunis, according to the statement. A few days ago, 31 newborns were taken to safety from Al-Shifa hospital and to the south.
Despite international criticism, Israeli soldiers were deployed in and around the hospital for days and have been pushing for its evacuation ever since. Israel accuses Islamic Hamas of using the hospital for terrorist purposes and of operating a command center under the buildings and of having set up a network of tunnels and bunkers. Hamas denies this.
