Red Cross President, Creator: “The second major natural disaster in just a few days is hitting desperately poor people in Afghanistan hard. “Help us help”
Vienna (OTS) – A few days after the devastating earthquake in the province of Herat, which claimed 2,500 lives, the earth shook again in the early hours of this morning. The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale.
Gerald Creator: “The situation in the affected regions is dramatic. People can’t calm down. While they still search the rubble for survivors, the earth shakes again. The infrastructure is completely destroyed. We urgently ask for donations to help the local population!”
Mobile health teams in action
Aid from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is in full swing. Afghan Red Crescent teams are searching the rubble for survivors and distributing water and food. Mobile health teams, created by the Austrian Red Cross, are deployed in the regions affected by the earthquake. They are made up of doctors, midwives, nurses, pharmacists and two specialists each for psychosocial support. They provide initial medical care and, if necessary, transport people to the nearest health center.
The Austrian Development Agency, ADA, supports the Afghan Red Crescent mobile health teams, which are currently deployed in the earthquake zone.
The Red Cross urgently requests donations:
