Rio Red Hot Chilli Peppers drummer Chad Smith visited Portela Square in the early hours of Saturday and fell in love with samba. The American artist played some musical instruments in addition to the drums and was very friendly. Some recent videos were shared on the group’s Instagram profile.

In Brazil, Chad was previously spotted at a bar in Ipanema, Rio’s south zone, at a show by country duo Jorge & Mateus earlier this month and performed with a Red Hot cover band in São Paulo.
Netizens can’t help but comment on the musician’s energy. “After attending Jorge and Mateus’ show, Chad Smith decided to play drums on Portelas. A man dedicated to the experience of being an ordinary Brazilian,” said one user of X, formerly Twitter. “Just Chad Smith in Portala,” another responded. “He’s completely confused because he couldn’t keep up with Portela’s drums. Chad Smith is definitely living his life,” a third person said.
At the next parade, Portela will present the story “Um Defeito de Cor” by carnival artists André Rodrigues and Antônio Gonzaga.
