A French Army frigate was attacked by drones fired from Yemen on the night of Saturday December 9th to Sunday December 10th. The intercepted drones bear the mark of the Houthi rebels.

A French frigate patrolling the Red Sea was attacked by drones belonging to a Yemen-based Islamist group. The ship has been operating alongside the American aircraft carrier Eisenhower at a highly strategic trade hub between Yemen and Egypt since mid-November. The French fired twice to neutralize the threat.

Support from Hamas

The Houthi Islamists are increasing their attacks in the Red Sea, for example with a commando operation on November 19th. They captured an Israeli cargo ship within minutes before entering the command post and overwhelming the crew. The Houthi rebels then showed their support for the Palestinians.

Since the Hamas attack on October 7, the Houthis have claimed to be part of the axis of resistance against the Jewish state and have openly declared war on Israel. Since then, the Houthis have regularly fired rockets and drones.
