Red Sea, Iran deploys the supership Alborz

The Iranian Navy has sent a destroyer into the Red Sea. Alborz, a naval ship of the 94th Flotilla of the Iranian Navy, passed through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait today and entered the Red Sea. This was reported by the Tasnmi news agency, which is linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Iranian Navy has established three commands to oversee naval missions in the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Tasnmi recalls that at a meeting with several Iranian Navy commanders and officials in November 2022, Islamic Revolution leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the need for the Navy to strengthen and maintain its presence in international waters. The leader also stressed the need for the Navy to expand its combat capabilities and defense equipment and continue to sail remote and international waters.

Iran's Security Council met with the spokesman for Yemen's Houthi rebels, who are responsible for attacks on ships transiting the Red Sea in connection with the war between Israel and Hamas. The Iranian news agency IRNA reported this on Telegram. The meeting, which took place yesterday, brought together Iranian Security Council President Rear Admiral Ali Akbar Ahmadian and Houthis spokesman Mohammed Abdel Salam to discuss “common interests and regional security issues.” According to the Iran Nuances website, the meeting took place in Tehran. As Secretary General of the Security Council, Ahmadian represents the interests of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say on all strategic issues. The Council can also make decisions without Parliament's consent, but needs Khamenei's consent.
