Fifty-nine constitutional experts from ten countries, Europe and America, issued a statement supporting the consent option for the referendum scheduled for September 4th.
The note indicates that “Chile is witnessing one of the most important events in its history and it will determine its future: the adoption of a new constitution.”
“After a journey that has its roots in the social explosion and a process of building consensus and participation, they comment that for the first time in its history Chile will have a democratic constitution in which all Chileans were the protagonists.”
And he adds that “Chile’s constitution conforms to the most advanced international standards. As in the countries at the forefront of development, it embodies social rights and their guarantees as an engine for a society that improves its living conditions and achieves better future prospects.”
The experts add that this “will be one of the first ecological constitutions in existence, looking towards a greener and more sustainable world for the people who live and will live in it. Governments need to be responsive to the needs of the people and there will be a process of local and regional empowerment that will support the country’s growth and development.”
“In that sense, it is a constitution that must be trusted because it will integrate Chile with the highest world standards,” the text continues.
Finally, the note clearly expresses the position of the 59 experts, pointing out that “we want to show our support for the approval of this democratic decision that will decide how this and future generations will live, because we believe that the proposed Constitution is that the Chilean people must move forward towards a more just, democratic and sustainable society”.
