Of the nearly seven thousand migrants who left Tapachula on Christmas Eve, 3,286 remain, according to a count conducted by the AC Human Dignification Center at the camp set up on a sports field where migrants spend the day.

The representative of the organization, Luis García Villagrán, called on the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador this Saturday to give thanks for the Christmas and New Year holidays and to address the immigration crisis within the framework of the law.

He explained that INM officials said they would be taken care of when they returned to the neighboring town of Tapachula. However, the members of the caravan have decided that this is not an option.

“The condition for us is that they give us a document that can be edited wherever they want, that allows us to advance to the 19th parallel, which is Mexico City, otherwise we will be very bad tomorrow or the day after leaving early to look for Oaxaca,” he expressed.

He insisted that the law stipulates that migrants have access to multiple immigration forms, balance letters, visas on grounds or other documents that allow them to stay legally in Mexico.

“We appeal to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Mr. Francisco Garduño (INM Commissioner) so that they can see from the heart the human side of this human crisis,” demanded the activist.
