Police have launched an investigation after a person jumped into the 9/11 North Tower Memorial.
The person survived the jump and jumped into the 45-foot reflecting pool, which was briefly closed off, according to the New York Times.
Officials told the Times that the jumper was a relative of a 9/11 victim who was “briefly granted access to the restricted area at the plaza level.”
They had looked at their loved one’s name on the memorial when the area reopened a short time later.
Security officials reportedly told the Times that the relative survived the jump into the 18-inch-deep water and complained of back pain.
