CHRONICLE – History has proven that pursuing foreign policy with domestic considerations is extremely dangerous.
Are we crossing today in the Strait of Formosa a dangerous geopolitical phase reminiscent of that of Balkan Europe at the beginning of the summer of 1914? Are China, the United States and Taiwan now sleepwalking toward an armed confrontation, like Austria-Hungary against Serbia, an ally of Russia, after the Sarajevo attack?
We can ask ourselves the question when we see the unnecessarily risky stances taken first by the Americans, then by the Chinese.
Did American Nancy Pelosi, Democratic House Speaker, really need to visit Taiwan on August 3, 2022, knowing that the visit would infuriate Chinese communist power? Wasn’t it enough to bolster the courage of Taiwan’s courageous democracy that Joe Biden, in a press conference in Tokyo on May 23, 2022, assured America would intervene militarily if the island was attacked by Communist China’s forces?
