TIMELINE – If he wants to remain in power, Putin has a keen interest in yielding to the pleas of the Chinese mediator, for whom peace is more profitable than war.

After the tour of Europe and Moscow by Wang Yi, the head of Chinese diplomacy, the President of Ukraine stated in his press conference in Kiev on February 24, 2023 that he wanted to meet his counterpart Xi Jinping.

China just published a peace plan. In its twelve points there is neither a condemnation of the Russian aggression of February 24, 2023 nor an allusion to the war crimes committed by the Russian army on Ukrainian territory for a year. What interests President Zelenskyy, however, is the reminder of the principle of the inviolability of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, which is enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
