René Richard Cyr is looking for amateur dancers for the shooting of his film adaptation of the musical The sisters-in-law. Supported by the duo Team White, who will sign the film’s choreographies, the director is organizing auditions in Montreal and Quebec for everyone.
A total of four audition days are planned, first in Quebec City (June 18 and 19), then in Montreal (June 20 and 21). René Richard Cyr will be on hand to see all the contestants, along with choreographers Katerine and Alexandre Leblanc, aka Team White, and the film’s producer, Denise Robert.
“We are looking for amateur dancers of all ages, as long as they are over 18 years old,” explains René Richard Cyr in an interview with the Journal.
“The sisters-in-law will be dancing in the film, so it would be fun if we had a nice troupe of sisters-in-law and a few brothers-in-law to accompany them. If there are people who are into amateur dance and have always dreamed of dancing in a movie, then it’s time!
Producer Denise Robert knows all about public auditions. She came up with the idea of organizing auditions all over Quebec to find the stars of her films Roméo et Juliette and Aurore.
“But this is the first time we’re trying the experiment with a musical. “It’s exciting because it’s a genre that hasn’t been developed in Quebec,” says the producer.

“Great Energy”
To create the choreographies of Les Belles-sœurs, René Richard Cyr commissioned the duo Team White, winners of the first season of Révolution. The tandem of choreographers is also tasked with selecting the professional dancers who will take part in the shooting of the film.
“We chose Team White because they are young, but also because they breathe that kind of youth there,” emphasizes René Richard Cyr. We want it to move and be fun. Team White’s energy is tremendous and we want them to bring that to the film.”
The film ‘Les belles-sœurs’ is an adaptation of the successful musical production that René Richard Cyr created himself on stage based on the famous play by Michel Tremblay and with the help of Daniel Bélanger (who composed the music). The film tells the story of Germaine Lauzon, a homemaker who has won a million stamps that she believes will bring happiness.
“Yes, there was the piece. Yes, there was a musical performance modeled after the play. But here it is a different matter. It’s a movie. The story is the same but told in a very different way. “We rewrote Les belles-sœurs with cinematic writing,” argues René Richard Cyr.
– The auditions will take place on June 18th and 19th from 8am to 6pm at the Hôtel PUR in Quebec City and on June 20th and 21st from 8am to 6pm at the TVA Studios in Montreal.
– Filming The sisters-in-law will take place from September 5th to October 27th, in anticipation of a theatrical release in July 2024. TVA Films will distribute the feature film.
