Giants general manager Joe Schoen inherited a terrible salary cap situation, and he made it clear that fixing it was a top priority for the team this off-season.

Schoen said this week that he is “open to all” when it comes to tidying up the team’s financial house, including a trade that would send Saquon Barkley’s return to another team for his fifth season in the NFL. There were no indications that Schoen had received calls for such a deal, and NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that the team not expected to Move Barkley.

The same may not be true for cornerback James Bradbury. Rapoport reports that he is more likely to leave the team through an exchange this off-season.

Bradbury signed a three-year contract as a free agent in 2020 and is expected to reach more than $ 21 million this year. The giants will clear more than $ 12.1 million by trading it before June 1, and that number will rise to $ 13.5 million if they define swap as a move after June 1.

There will be significant dead money in both scenarios, but avoiding this will be difficult for a Giants team that has to cut a lot of money thanks to the misfortunes of Schoen’s predecessor.
