Well, Howie, that would probably qualify as a conspiracy theory.
Amid some belated public spat between the Jets and receiver Mecole Hardman, a boneheaded report has surfaced.
Here is the tweet from Connor Hughes of SNY.tv: “Yes, I was told the belief was confirmed #Jets that WR Mecole Hardman, frustrated with his lack of effort, passed game plans to opponents, as suggested by several players today (Sauce Gardner, Kenny Yeboah). Not only that #Eagle game, but also the #Boss. Ironically, the Eagles' win was arguably the Jets' best of the season, while Zach Wilson enjoyed the best game of his career against the Chiefs.”
(This is the Gardner tweet from earlier in the day.)
It's important to understand what Hughes did and didn't say. He said there is “confirmed belief” that Hardman passed game plans to the Chiefs and Eagles. Hughes didn't say it actually happened.
The report also contains no comment or response from the Jets or Hardman. Under these circumstances both seem to be necessary.
The report has been created for now. And it's a doozy if it's true.
Hardman spent his first four years with the Chiefs. He signed with the Jets as a free agent last year.
He had one catch for six yards before being traded back to the Chiefs. And later he caught the game-winning touchdown pass in the Super Bowl.
