Salman alBashir, a journalist from the Palestinian Authority television channel, commented during a live broadcast on the death of his colleague Mohammed Abu Hatab, who died in Gaza after a bomb attack by the Israeli army. As alBashir spoke, the news anchor could not hold back her tears and cried on the radio.

Hatab died in Gaza along with his entire family. A few hours before the bombing of Israel, the journalist was in the region’s hospital and reported. He was soon brought to the same location, but as a victim of the conflict.

“We can’t take it anymore, we’re exhausted. We are victims. We are being killed one by one. And no one cares about the extent of the disaster or the crime we suffered in Gaza,” alBashir lamented live.

Outraged by the situation, the journalist removed all his special press equipment and declared: “There is no international protection, there is no protection for anything.” These vests and helmets do not protect any journalist, they are just symbols that we use. We are victims, victims live on air.”

“We are losing our lives one by one, without any guarantee. It is a matter of time. We are victims waiting for our turn. Mohammad was here half an hour ago [para a reportagem]. Now he is dead in the same hospital with his family,” the Palestinian Authority television journalist added.

Salman alBashir also added that he believes that “we are all going to die here, it’s just a matter of time.”

War

Israeli forces have carried out a series of attacks against Gaza, both in the air and on the ground. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 9,000 people have died and another 22,000 have been injured in the region as a result of the conflict.

The attacks intensified after members of the extremist group Hamas invaded Israel on October 7, killing more than 1,400 Israelis and taking around 200 hostages.

Israeli military authorities argue that the bombings targeted Hamas members and infrastructure. In addition, Israeli forces are calling on the population of Gaza to move south. Humanitarian groups argue that there is no safe place to flee Gaza.
