The Packers no longer have to worry about signing wide receiver Davante Adams to a long-term contract. They have to worry about replacing it.
According to multiple reports, Green Bay is sending Adams to the Raiders. In return, the Packers will receive two 2022 draft picks, including the Raiders’ first-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The parties had already worked out a contract, and Adams became the highest paid wide receiver in the league. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that this is a five-year, $141.25 million deal, giving him an average of $28.25 million.
Adams reportedly told the Packers earlier this week that he would not play for the franchise this season. The Packers and Adams had until July 15 to work out a long-term deal, but they were far apart, prompting quiet talks with the Raiders.
According to Rapoport, Adams has already bought a house next to his new quarterback Derek Carr in Las Vegas.
Adams, 29, has won five consecutive Pro Bowl tournaments and two All-Pros.
His departure leaves Aaron Rodgers without a beloved successor.
In 30 games over the last two seasons, Adams had 238 receptions for 2,927 yards and 27 touchdowns.
