Before the start of the Republican primaries in the US, the former president is far ahead of all other Republican candidates in the polls. Voting will take place on January 15th.
Republican leadership in the US House of Representatives rallied behind former President Donald Trump during the election campaign. On Wednesday, Republican Tom Emmer also expressed his support for the 77-year-old in November's presidential election — a day after House Majority Leader Steve Scalise. As “Majority Whip”, Emmer is responsible for organizing the majorities in the parliamentary group.
He wrote on platform X, formerly Twitter, that it was time for the party to unite in support of a leader who had everything it took to put the country on the right path. Trump has the entire Republican leadership in the House of Representatives behind him.
House Speaker Mike Johnson and the third-ranking Republican in the House, Elise Stefanik, had already sided with Trump – ardent Trump loyalist Stefanik even more than a year ago, shortly after the former president announced its renewed application.
The fact that Trump has so much official support from the party establishment before the primaries begin shows once again his strong internal position in the race – despite all the scandals, escapades and legal charges against him. The 77-year-old man wants to be the Republican candidate again in November's presidential elections and, in the polls, he is far ahead of the Republican candidates.
Biden wants to take on a second term
For Democrats, President Joe Biden wants to run for a second term. He has no serious internal competition. Anyone who wants to run as a presidential candidate for the Republicans or Democrats in the USA must first win in the party's internal primaries. The primary series begins on January 15th with the first Republican vote in the state of Iowa. (APA)
