The Colorado Republican Party on Wednesday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene after the Colorado Supreme Court barred former U.S. President Donald Trump from running in the state's Republican primary. A party lawyer said this.
The Colorado Supreme Court ruled on December 19 that Trump was unfit to be president due to his role in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, and therefore could not participate in the primary election. Trump, the leading candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, is also expected to appeal the court's ruling.
Trump wants to return to the White House for Republicans after the 2024 presidential election. His opponents are trying in several states to remove Trump's name from presidential election ballots. They defend a constitutional amendment that excludes people who incited an “insurrection” against the constitution from elections.
