Article writtenresidents of Odessa undergo accelerated training in handling weapons

The great Black Sea port is preparing for the worst. So, the residents are training to defend their city, like Alexandra and Marina … Excerpt from the magazine “13:15 Saturday” dated March 12, 2022.

A group of residents undergo an express training to learn how to handle weapons in an unknown area of the Ukrainian city of Odessa, which is preparing for an attack by the Russian army. The great Black Sea port is one of the main goals of the war of Vladimir Putin, who launched an invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 at dawn.

Alexandra, 23, worked as a store manager a few weeks ago. She volunteered, as did all the people who train with her, men and women of all ages, sometimes even just out of their teens.

“We came to learn how to defend ourselves”

Marina is very religious and she would never have thought that one day she would have to use a weapon. “The Bible tells us not to kill, but the enemies have invaded us. And so that our men and our children are not killed, from the bombing of our maternity hospitals and our hospitals, we must protect ourselves. We have no other choice,” she explains to the magazine “13:15 Saturday” (repeat).

While this is still training, but for a girl it already seems very real. Like many other Ukrainian women, Marina is ready to go into battle to defend her country: “We came to learn how to use weapons and learn how to defend ourselves. If a soldier is wounded next to a weapon, we must know what to do with the weapon in question. If it is we who can help them, then that is our role. That’s how it is.”
