Resignation of Vice-President Director of Radio-Canada, Michel Bissonnette – Le Soleil

The former political organizer and television producer had held the position since 2017.

Radio-Canada would not confirm or deny the information or discuss the possible reasons for his departure.

The news of this resignation, which was widely reported internally on Monday, came suddenly and without warning.

Michel Bissonnette came from the private sector when he was appointed senior vice-president of the public broadcaster. As co-founder of the production house Zone3, a major player in the television industry, he contributed to the production of titles such as Infoman, À la di Stasio, Ma maison Rona and Les francs-tireurs.

Previously, Mr. Bissonnette worked at Videotron and TVA. He began his career at Publicis BCP in the late 1980s.

Michel Bissonnette also had a career in politics, first as president of the Youth Commission, then as special adviser to the Liberal Party of Quebec. He also managed Jean Charest’s last election campaign in 2012.

At the heart of Radio-Canada’s digital transformation, Michel Bissonnette sought to mobilize part of the industry and proposed unifying the content of major broadcasters on a single platform. Unfortunately, his suggestion was not accepted by the competition.

In January 2021, he was forced to publicly apologize for staying in Florida in December, contrary to health authorities’ recommendations.
