With cases of COVID-19 and respiratory viruses on the rise, wearing a mask will become mandatory again starting Monday at the CHUM in Montreal.

This is according to an internal memo sent to Montreal hospital staff, as first reported by Radio-Canada and confirmed by La Presse. Accordingly, doctors and staff who enter patient rooms must wear masks again in the hospital. The patients themselves, their relatives and visitors also have to undergo this new procedure.
“We encourage you to implement good practices regarding hand hygiene,” CHUM also tells its employees. The preventive approach aims to protect the hospital population by avoiding contamination, assures the CHUM.
The measure will be implemented from Monday, October 2nd.
Already present in other parts of Quebec
CHUM is not the first hospital center to implement this measure amid the resurgence of respiratory viruses. On September 21, Radio-Canada Estrie reported that due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, masks are now required at all CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS facilities.
Quebec University Hospital followed suit on September 27, requiring this protection in a hospital setting for patients and anyone who comes into contact with them, whether staff or visitors, ICI Quebec said.
