Former Montreal Canadiens forward Tomas Plekanec has hung up his skates in the Czech Republic.
The 40-year-old Plekanec will not finish the season he started in the Czech league with the Kladno Knights.
The number 14 wearer in Montreal cited health issues that prevented him from continuing.
Just last year, Plekanec dominated in the Czech Republic and took first place in the club standings with 49 points in 52 games.
In the National Hockey League, Plekanec played most of his 1,001 games for the Canadiens. He spent time with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2017-2018, traded at the deadline, but returned to Montreal the following season to reach the symbolic 1,000 game mark.
