Return of snow: Two scenarios unsettling Quebec

A coastal system had the potential to bring snow back to Quebec on Thursday, but models are still not in agreement. Which path will he take? Details.

The very mild air mass hovering over the east of the continent will gradually retreat throughout the week. Cold air is pouring down behind it, which would allow a coastal disturbance to replenish snowpack in several regions of the province between Thursday and Friday.

Two possibilities

This system, running along the east coast of the United States, will enter Canadian territory later in the day on Thursday. At the time of writing, its development is still uncertain: one scenario predicts the return of snow, while the other suggests a missed opportunity.

On the carpet

Thanks to a strong jet stream, the low pressure system has the potential to temporarily bring a semblance of winter to the province. If its trajectory diverges westward, regions south of the St. Lawrence River would be treated to snow on Thursday and Friday. If it takes an easterly trajectory, Quebec would miss the opportunity to see snowflakes again before the arrival of astronomical spring.

SYSTEM1 (2)SYSTEM1 (2)

Keep in mind that numerous riots have skirted Quebec in recent months, leading to the glaring lack of snow on the ground. Will the next one reverse the trend?

Good to know: This year, astronomical spring begins on March 19th. Meteorological spring always begins on March 1st.

Essentially, the regions between the metropolitan region and Bas-Saint-Laurent are most affected by the snow potential.

SYSTEM3 (2)SYSTEM3 (2)

The latter could even see moderate snowfall at times. In the southwest of the province, milder temperatures would bring a mix of rain and snow.
