The man is accused of killing his mother and niece, then another person at a bank branch where he took customers hostage.
A man was arrested this Saturday, October 28, in the morning in La Possession, on the island of Reunion, after killing his mother, his niece and then another person in a bank branch, Agence France-Presse (AFP) learned from the Gendarmerie.
Early in the morning, the man stabbed his mother and then his niece before going to a Crédit Agricole branch, where he killed one person and took customers hostage. He was arrested shortly afterwards, the same source added. According to our colleagues from La 1ere, his mother was about sixty years old and his niece was five years old.
Taken into police custody
At the scene, the Saint-Denis prosecutor, Véronique Denizot, told the press that the attacker, “slightly injured in the attack,” had been taken into custody.
The prosecutor noted that “his mental state was not considered incompatible with his placement in police custody.”
“At this point in time there is no evidence of a terrorist motive,” “the man is not known to the judicial authorities for radicalization acts and he is not in the S file,” she emphasized.
She confirmed the death toll of “three people, two adults and one child” without giving details of the events. According to the initial investigative elements communicated by the public prosecutor’s office, six people were injured at different times during this man’s journey.
