Review of Silent Vengeance: John Woo’s Failed Concept – TVA Nouvelles

Joel Kinnaman wants to avenge his son’s death Silent revenge by John Woo (Mission: Impossible 2), whose peculiarity is that it is almost free of dialogue.

In the original version, the film is called Silent Night, a reference to the well-known Christmas carol Silent Night, Holy Night. Because this simple revenge story actually takes place during the Christmas season and we will inevitably make a connection to “Crystal Trap” with Bruce Willis, as the Christmas party serves perfectly as a visual backdrop for a bloody scenario.

John Woo’s last American film is “Payday,” starring Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman, from 2003. The Chinese filmmaker, known for his multi-gun action scenes and stylized fight scenes, has decided to focus on Mandarin feature films to concentrate . This means that this Silent Vengeance was expected.

From the first images we know that we are going to be dealing with a very bloody revenge film, of which there are hundreds. But John Woo and screenwriter Robert Archer Lynn had more than one trick up their sleeves and decided that it would probably be interesting to make an almost silent film, since the hero lost his voice after being shot in the vocal cords.

After the accidental death of his son, this father, played by Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop), bitterly pursues the responsible members of the gang. And since you have to sit through 104 minutes, there is no shortage of chases, collisions and other twists (including the resurrection of our “hero”). Instead of making the fights and other gory moments interesting, the lack of dialogue only emphasizes the weaknesses of the scenario, which are common in this type of feature film.

Silent Vengeance hits theaters on December 1st.
