‘RHOSLC’ recap: Heather Gay finally shares the backstory behind her black eye

Heather Gay finally revealed that she doesn’t remember getting her infamous black eye from being too drunk.

“I blacked out,” the reality star, 40, said Wednesday at Part 1 of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City reunion. “I don’t know how it happened.”

Gay’s admission came weeks after her co-stars and viewers speculated dozens of theories about how the Bravolebrity got some serious shine during a cast trip to San Diego.

“I woke up startled. I had my phone plugged in, I was wearing pajamas,” Gay explained, adding that she was “terrified” that her co-stars would see it as an opportunity to “rewrite the narrative” if they knew she was couldn’t remember.

At the time the incident happened, Gay contradicted herself by saying she both remembered and remembered it — which confused her co-stars and fans.

Host Andy Cohen clarified that Bravo conducted an investigation, but they “found nothing and there was no additional footage.”

“When the production came into my room, I told them, I said, ‘I have no idea, I have no recollection,'” Gay claimed. “And after that it got out of hand and I take full responsibility and I’m really sorry. It’s scary.”

The “Bad Mormon” writer became emotional and cried as she explained that she felt “Mormon shame” at the “humiliating” and “terrible” thought of passing out with a black eye and scratches all over wake her up.

“I know I passed out. I woke up to a very, very stressful situation with so much shame and humiliation,” Gay said.

“There was no way to hide it and I went into my thing, this is just humor, and made it go away, and it didn’t go away, but I certainly don’t want to implicate anyone here, anyone in the production – it’s my own fault and shame that I passed out and can’t explain it.”

Gay also addressed a fan theory that Jen Shah “hit” her after drinking too much, fueled by the couple’s suspicious conversation the morning after the incident.

“I trusted her the most to come up with a cover story when you black out and you have a black eye,” Gay explained in response to why she spoke to Shah, 49, first the next day.

“If I knew Jen did this I would cover it up, but that wasn’t my intention — I blacked out.”

The mother-of-three went on to say that the last thing she remembers from the Marilyn Monroe theme night was “joking around with the boobs” with Shah, going into her room and taking off her blonde wig.

Gay explained that she was hoping to hear or see something that would refresh her memory, but unfortunately she’s still as in the dark as she was when she first got her black eye.

Gay’s cousin and former best friend Whitney Rose – who previously denied being the cause of the injury – said she thought Gay had an “accident” while she was drunk or that Shah “hit” her.
