Ricercaci Cameron Crozman – Le Devoir

“Ricercaci”, Cameron Crozman – Le Devoir

After the excellent and friendly Spanish program Tapeo, Cameron Crozman embarks on a much more advanced endeavor. We understand how difficult it is for cellists to talk to themselves in music: you have to find the right moment to immortalize Bach’s suites, and after that, roughly speaking, Britten and Kodály are left. Crozman therefore resurrects Domenico Gabrielli’s seven Ricercari from 1689, which sound more like well-ordered exercises than masterpieces. Based on the fact that ricercar means “to search,” Crozman combines these groundbreaking works with seven contemporary compositions by Alexina Louie, Nina C. Young, Jordan Pal (excellent!), Daniel Alvarado Bonilla, Benoît Sitzia, Kelly-Marie Murphy and himself himself . The idea follows the contemporary mirror that Jean-Guihen Queyras once had for Bach’s suites. Crozman dedicates his excellence and expertise to all this in-depth research. The challenge will be to find the public brave enough to adhere to the rigorous exercise.
