According to court documents obtained by People, the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer filed for divorce from her husband of six years, a day before the former couple announced their split.
Ricky Martin has filed for divorce in California Superior Court. He said the date of Jwan Yosef’s split has yet to be determined and that the reason for the divorce was “irreconcilable differences”.
The Puerto Rican artist has filed for joint custody of their two children: four-year-old Lucia and three-year-old Renn. Ricky Martin is also the father of 14-year-old twins Matteo and Valentino, whom he will continue to raise as a single parent.
The singer’s file showed that he planned to pay alimony to the Syrian-Swedish artist after the divorce.
While the couple “have yet to determine the nature and extent of each party’s assets and liabilities,” the musician said they had “no such assets or liabilities, to my knowledge,” to pay Jwan Joseph. They had signed a marriage contract.
Last week, the former couple announced their split via People, saying, “We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children and to honor what we’ve been through as a couple over all these wonderful years.”
“Our greatest desire now is to continue to have a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on peace and friendship to continue our children’s education together while maintaining the respect and love we have for one another,” they continue.
