Right wing populism in Europe: a continent is drifting to the right zeit.de

Europe is becoming increasingly brown. Or bluer, depending on the color attributed to right-wing populists. The color scheme differs from country to country, the content is often similar: xenophobia, euroscepticism and exploitation of resentment.

The political program is simple and not user-friendly, but it is currently extremely successful. In some European Union countries, right-wing populists are now the strongest political force, as in Hungary or Slovenia, or, according to polls, in Austria. The regions of Germany where the AfD is currently at the top of the polls (such as Saxony, Thuringia or Brandenburg) are therefore no exceptions, but fall within the range of the new European normality.
