“We have to give credit to Rimouski. They have dominated us from A to Z. Our level of competition is unacceptable. After January 10, we return to base. We need practice but we lacked conviction and that’s unacceptable,” commented Sags head coach Yannick Jean.

The Océanic totally dominated the first half as evidenced by the 18-a-side shot total. Sags goalkeeper Charles-Antoine Lavallée was very solid but he would certainly like to see Charles Side, who turned out to be the sole purpose of the first engagement. He then defended himself from a penalty against Jacob Mathieu.

The Oceanic won second

The Océanic doubled their lead midway through the second period on a power play. Luke Verreault snatched a loose puck from the opposition net and scored his 10th goal of the season, assisted by William Dumoulin and Luke Coughlin. Three minutes later, Julien Béland (14′) scored with a fine one-on-one shot to make it 3-0.

Jacob Mathieu was stopped on a penalty shot in the first period.

At the start of the third period, Jacob Mathieu (8′) skilfully redirected Alexander Gaudio’s pass to the Sags goalkeeper. Visitors reacted as Étienne Tremblay-Mathieu brought Thomas Bégin’s beautiful staging to life at the reception. In the middle of the game, Alexander Gaudio made it 5-1 with a penalty. Jan Sprynar (16th) scored a 6th goal for the hosts after a skillful pass from Frédéric Brunet.

“A Good 60 Minutes”

“That is a very good performance. A good 60 minute game. We moved our feet and were consistent apart from a few small streaks. The boys play together. We have six different goalscorers again, that makes us strong,” analyzed Océanic head coach Serge Beausoleil.
