At Easter, “Renovate Switzerland” activists blocked the Gotthard. On the occasion of the summer break, traffic in the south is slow again – Swiss activists could plan another blockade here.

  • German “state-of-the-art” weather stickers are taking a three-week break.

  • During this period, regional groups and their heads will be able to take a vacation, and no media inquiries will be answered.

  • The Swiss counterpart “Renew Switzerland” says on request that actions are also planned for the coming weeks.

Members of the ‘last generation’ have repeatedly caused discontent with their roadblocks in Germany – recently several flights from Hamburg and Düsseldorf had to be canceled because of people on the tarmac after weather stickers climbed over safety fences and penetrated the runways . In mid-July, there were several roadblocks across the country, on the verge of which a man was seriously injured in a rear-end collision.

Time to “grow together and rest”

In the next three weeks, however, the sprayed aircraft and blocked roads should end, as “Bild” reports. According to an internal document from the “Last Generation” that the newspaper has, the period from July 15th to August 5th should be used to “grow together and rest”. Regional groups and the organization’s core staff may take vacations during this time, and no communication should take place on the Twitter channel or via media spokespersons during these vacations. Lectures and bond formation should still happen.

What is “Last Generation” in Germany is called “Renovating Switzerland” in this country. The group’s members regularly take to the streets and, according to the statement itself, are protesting for more decisive action against climate change. But will Swiss streets also be free of stickers and activists in the coming weeks?

Police stop activists from protesting

At the request of 20 minutes, Selina Lerch, in her capacity as media spokesperson for “Renovating Switzerland”, announced that the group had not planned a vacation. On Saturday, several activists gathered for an unannounced protest march in Sion. About an hour after the start of the protest, the activists said they were searched by the police, who seized the protest material.

According to Lerch, new campaigns are planned for the coming weeks. So while the “last generation” temporarily suspends their fight for the climate, Swiss activists want to keep protesting – and therefore probably blocking too. Individual members, however, take vacations: Max Voegtli, one of the group’s press officers, caused discussions with his flight to Mexico.
