The global superstar will not only belt out his catchy new song in the commercial, but will also be the voice of the famous feline Felix.

Photos revealing the news showed Robbie holding a mug that read “I love cats” while relaxing in an armchair surrounded by his feline friends.

He cut a fine figure in a black shirt with sleeves rolled up to show off his tattoos and straight-leg jeans as he petted the cats.

The Angels hitmaker was seen touching up his makeup while styling his silver tresses in a slick-back style for the photoshoot.

Speaking of the campaign, Robbie said: “The cat is out of the bag, I’m the new voice of Felix.

“I’ve been a long-time fan of cats, I’ve had many feline friends over the years and after studying their fascinating behavior I can say with confidence: It’s great being a cat.”

In a video, Robbie also explained that he always wanted to write a song for a commercial, as he described his latest track as a “catchy tune”.

He said: “I wanted to write a song for an advert and this song is absolutely catchy. Melody is good, lyrics are good, music is good. People will feel soft and warm and fuzzy and then get annoyed that the song is still in their head.

“It’s great being a cat because you always end up landing on your feet, just like me,” he added.

Fabio Degli Esposti, Group Marketing Director at Purina, said: “Combining our much loved FELIX food and cherished Felix the Cat character with the one and only Robbie Williams gives us our best recipe yet. For the two to be mischievous together at their very own film premiere shows exactly why they are a perfect match.”

Rebecca Marshall, Senior Brand Manager at Purina UK&I, said: “I’m delighted to launch our latest It’s Great To Be a Cat campaign with Robbie Williams. The two really go together perfectly and the new track is one that will definitely get everyone playing.”

Robbie’s song is available to stream on Spotify, while the commercial will air exclusively on YouTube on January 25 at 5pm.

His latest career project comes after Robbie and Mark Owen wowed Take That fans when they reunited in a hilarious Instagram video on Sunday.

The pair were filmed by Robbie’s wife Ayda Field as they ate pizza while bizarrely sitting in high chairs.

Mark, 50, and Robbie joked they were the band’s babies as they sat in highchairs belonging to Robbie’s daughter Coco, four, and son Beau, two.

Ayda quipped: “I enjoyed you both in the highchairs. I think it looks good,” Robbie replied. “We couldn’t sit anywhere else. And besides, we’re the babies of the band.”

Fans were very excited to see the two singers together and rushed to thank Ayda for sharing the clip.

The reunion comes after Mark recently said he would love for Robbie to return to Take That again.

Formed in 1989, Take That have had 12 number one singles on the UK Singles Chart along with eight number one albums and are currently the most successful boy band in UK chart history.

The original line-up consisted of Robbie, 47, who left the band in 1995 and forged a phenomenally successful solo career. The group broke up a year later.

In 2006 the band reunited – without Robbie – and had great success again.

Robbie returned to the band for new album Progress in 2010, but resigned once in 2014.

Mark has previously said he, Gary Barlow and Howard Donald are planning their next LP as a trio but hope Robbie will join them at some point.

Take That fans have also been waiting for the release of Greatest Days.

The film follows a fledgling boy band inspired by, but not the same as, the real life pop group, and pits newcomers Aaron Bryan, Dalvin Cory, Joshua Jung, Mark Samaras and Mervin Noronha.
