Robert Cormier dies: ‘Heartland’ and ‘Slasher: Solstice’ actor turned 33

Robert Cormier, a television and film actor who has starred as Finn Cotter on the long-running Canadian series Heartland as well as the Netflix horror series Slasher: Solstice, died September 23. He was 33 years old. No cause of death was given.

Cormier has played Finn on CBC’s Heartland for the past two seasons, which has run on Canadian television for 15 seasons and holds the record as Canada’s longest-running hour-long drama. It is also syndicated in the US

His other television credits have included ABC/Netflix’s “Designated Survivor,” CBS’ “Ransom,” and the role of Winston in two episodes of Starz’s “American Gods.”

In film, he appeared in Jasmin Mozaffari’s Firecrackers, which had its world premiere at the 2018 Toronto Film Festival. Other feature films include Otto in Pyrenees (2018) and Al in The Intersection (2019).

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Robert Cormier,” the Heartland Productions wrote on their social media accounts on Tuesday. “He’s been a popular member of the Heartland cast for the past two seasons. On behalf of the Heartland cast and crew, our thoughts go out to him and his family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time.”

“Robert Cormier, aka Heartland’s Finn, was an amazing talent who left way too soon,” wrote UpTV, Heartland’s US network. “We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing. Our sincere condolences go out to his friends, family and staff.”

Cormier is survived by his parents Robert and Lisa; his sisters Brittany, Krystal and Stephanie; his grandmother Joanne; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
