The two-time Oscar nominee was clean-shaven and wore a simple black zipped jacket, black pants and white sneakers.

His dark hair was cropped short, with a touch of gray at the temples.

Susan, 49, was styled in a coordinated look, wearing a black crew-neck sweater and black and white polka dot skirt.

The Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows producer styled her long brunette locks in loose curls and wore simple makeup to emphasize her natural beauty.

In a loving tribute to his wife, Robert wrote, “To those who will lovingly tolerate my many shenanigans, I pledge my undying love.”

Robert, who suffered from a severe drug addiction in the 1990s and early 2000s that threatened to turn his career and life upside down, credits his wife with helping him get sober.

The Wonder Boys actor eloquently described what it was like battling addiction when he was sentenced to prison in court in 1999, telling the judge, “It’s like I’ve got a shotgun in my mouth, and that’s my finger on the trigger and I like the taste of the gunmetal.”

Susan, who met her future husband on the set of Gothika in 2003, has been credited with helping the Chaplin star turn his life around after failing multiple rehab treatments and even prison.

The doting wife turned it down during a December interview with The Hollywood Reporter following a special screening of the Netflix documentary Sr, which focused on the life and career of the head actor’s father, Robert Downey, Sr.

“If anyone has ever dealt with someone with addiction, you know it has nothing to do with anyone else,” she told the audience.

“You must be ready. If you can be a small part of creating an alternate world for them that says, “Hey, I’m here. If you’re clean, great.’ But there’s no merit I’ll ever acknowledge other than basically saying, “Here’s what needs to happen” or, more importantly, “What can’t happen.” But it is entirely that person.”

Robert recalled that moment of truth as “the clearest conversation I’ve had in my entire life. You know when someone is so clear with you about something that you’re like, “There’s no wiggle room right now… but ultimatums work!”

Susan clarified, saying, “But they only work if the person is ready.”

The actor, who appeared to be trying to get away from the seriousness of the conversation, responded in a high-pitched voice, “You screwed me up.”

In a 2009 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Susan shared that the line she drew in the sand caused Robert to pull into a Burger King parking lot and throw his drugs into the sea.

“There is something going on [Susan] it’s so pure and…right,” the Singing Detective star claimed in the same interview. “But then there’s the other stuff, her shady side, which is lovely and she just shows me.”

Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie remarked that the couple have “the best illustration of a symbiotic marriage I’ve ever seen.”

“It’s a real yin and yang and he enjoys working with it. Robert would be a pain in the ass if he didn’t have Susan monitoring him and helping him fight his dark side.

“He’s struggling with it now,” the director explained, “there’s no denial or repression. He’s busy with life.’
