Robert Rinder fought back tears on Monday morning as he returned to present Good Morning Britain.

The 44-year-old lawyer got emotional live on air as he described the tragic loss of his French bulldog, Rocco, who died suddenly last week.

And he was comforted by his co-host Susanna Reid, who offered her support and placed a caring hand on his arm.

Robert explained the loss he feels: “I wasn’t exactly a dog person, but then this beautiful snoring creature walked into my life. He gave me absolute loyalty and unconditional love.

“There is nothing like the deep joy of coming home and seeing someone filled with boundless joy just to see you. Nobody will give you that.’

Also reaching out to viewers who may have had similar experiences, he continued, “It’s that connection to pets, animals in general, that so many people feel.

“And I have to say to anyone out there that has lost a pet and it’s a real heartache, I hear you.”
