Apparently not wanting to be left out of one of the busiest trading weeks in recent NFL history, the Tennessee Titans closed the deal on Saturday night.
After releasing last season’s big acquisition, wide receiver Julio Jones, as a cap, the Titans sent a 2023 sixth-round pick to the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Robert Woods. Find our scores for the latest NFL deal below and see how the Titans and Rams have fared well with this deal.
Titans: A
The man they call Bobby Treese is a great fit for the Tennessee offense.
Widely regarded as one of the best run-blocking wide receivers in football, Woods should fit into the Titans’ offense under Derrick Henry. He is also familiar with the formation that Tennessee uses, as both the Rams and the Titans use offshoots of the Shanahan-style offense. He is very experienced at the types of intermediate routes that Ryan Tannehill excels at, and he should be a good ball handler to complement the explosive A.J. Brown on the opposite side.
Woods’ salary ($10 million base, $3.5 million lineup bonus) is quite affordable, and nothing is guaranteed after this season. Acquiring him only for a sixth-round selection next year makes this a great deal for Tennessee.
Rams: S
Basically, the Rams just lost some pay, which they needed to do after signing Allen Robinson to a three-year deal earlier this week and renewing Matthew Stafford on Sunday. Los Angeles is reportedly working on a contract extension for superstar guard Aaron Donald and also wants to keep Odell Beckham Jr. With Robinson in the roster, Beckham potentially back and Van Jefferson still in the roster, the Rams clearly felt they could afford it. break up with Woods.
However, getting only a future pick in the sixth round is a pretty meager profit, and the unceremonious removal of a player who has been such a staple of their offense for the past few years seems odd.
