The Rockies outlasted the Rangers in 10 innings Monday, but not without a minor controversy.
After Colorado scored two runs in the top of the 10th to take a 6-4 lead, Texas found themselves in a position to equalize in the bottom half. Marcus Semien started the inning at second base under extra inning rules, and Mitch Garver pulled a one-out walk to give the Rangers two baserunners.
Midfielder Adolis García was next to the plate, hitting a ground ball to the left side of infield. Garver was kicked out on second base, but his defensive slide caused the ensuing throw from Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers to miss first, allowing Semien to score and allowing García to advance another base.

Colorado manager Bud Black quickly decided to challenge the game. After a lengthy review, the game’s umpires determined that Garver committed a “pushing rule violation” and affected Rodger’s ability to throw. As a result, García was ruled out and the game ended.
The Rockies improved to 3-1 on the season after the post-review dust settled. First baseman CJ Cron led with a solo home run and an RBI triple while reliever Daniel Bard clinched the win.
Rangers fell to 3-1 with the loss but have a chance to redeem themselves on Tuesday when the two teams meet for the second game of the series.
