Rod Stewart’s children are “concerned” about the 78-year-old rocker and are urging him to retire from his decades-long rock ‘n’ roll career so he can “focus on his family and his health.”
According to a close family friend, several of the eight children of crooner Rod – who will embark on a 40-show global tour on June 24 – are encouraging “to throw in the towel” after more than 50 years in the spotlight. He insists he should “retire on his own terms” so he can focus on his roles as father and grandfather for some time.
“They’re worried about him and want him to quit music and retire on his own terms,” the insider shared. “Your father dedicated 50 years of his life to music and he has nothing left to prove.
“Given his health issues and considering his age, some of Rod’s children just think it’s time he took a few years off to focus on his health and family – especially after the birth of his third grandchild.”
In 2019, Rod announced that he had beaten prostate cancer after a secret three-year battle with the disease that began two decades after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Months after his battle with prostate cancer broke, he underwent ankle fusion surgery and a total knee replacement following a soccer injury.

A source tells that several of Rod’s eight children (seen here in 2019) want their father to retire from music “on his own terms” and focus on “his health and family.”

Interestingly, Rod – who will be completing two gigs in Ireland on June 20th and 21st before embarking on a tour of the UK on June 24th – revealed in a recent interview that his forthcoming Edinburgh concerts in early July will be ‘the’ last of my rock ‘n’ roll shows’, suggesting he’s ready to slow down.
But far from retiring from touring, the singer is simply shifting gears to focus on other musical genres before embarking on his world tour, which includes stops in Spain and Portugal, as well as North America, Brazil and Las Vegas.
“I want to keep going and I’ve always wanted to do The Great American Songbook live.” “It sold 38 million copies,” he said. “I also did a fantastic swing album with Jools Holland, which is more Louis Prima than Frank Sinatra. I just want to change something.’
Currently, Rod’s tour is slated for the remainder of 2023, concluding with a two-week stint in Las Vegas that will run from November 10-22.
“Rod doesn’t really want to quit and doesn’t know how not to make music.” It’s his life. “He would love to rock forever and believes his fans need him,” the source said.
“His family just hopes that when he’s done Rod’s tour will actually be done. They really want him to stick to it.”

Rod’s health problems have existed since 2000 when he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and required a tumor removed.
Rod recently shared this photo with all eight of his children in Portofino, Italy, who feel like “their dad dedicated 50 years of his life to music and he has nothing left to prove to anyone.”
The delighted grandfather (with two of his new grandchildren) should “take the time to focus on his health and family, particularly his new grandchildren,” the source tells
The legendary I Don’t Wanna Talk About It rocker (who performed in 1976) doesn’t want to retire, the source says, adding that he wants to “rock forever.”
In his autobiography, the legendary artist said of his diagnosis: “I felt anxious and vulnerable in a way I had never felt before.”
Less than two decades later, the cancer returned—this time in the form of aggressive prostate cancer.
In 2019, Rod’s wife, Penny Lancaster, 52, with whom he has sons Alastair, 18, and Aiden, 13, revealed in an interview that Rod had undergone three radiation treatments.
She said the treatment was a success and that Rod was in remission during a panel appearance on Loose Women. She also said that Rod “doesn’t believe in retirement.”
“We were in London when it happened and Rod is very happy with his health. He doesn’t believe in retirement, he wants to continue forever, so he’ll always have checkups and tests.”
Penny continued, “We got the shock news that it was cancer.” It was quite aggressive and came on very quickly. With Rod, it was an aggressive virus and instead of staying in the gland, it exited the gland and traveled to the outer tissues.”
“It’s been two and a half years now, but the good news is that we found out soon enough.” Knowing the gland had gotten outside, we couldn’t have the gland removed, so he underwent intensive radiation therapy for three months had to.
That same year, Rod learned he would have to undergo total knee replacement surgery. Due to the surgery, Rod found it difficult to walk and in 2020 he said in an interview with The Mirror that he also had to undergo ankle fusion surgery.
“First of all it was my knee as I have played football all my life. I suffer from it now. My knee was fitted with a replacement and then the ankle didn’t know what was going on.
“It was wrong. So I had to have an ankle fusion done. “When that’s all done, I should have a nice, straight leg and be able to walk.”
In February, Rod’s trainer Gary O’Conner told Express.co.uk he was in great shape now and credited it to “pool training”.
“We do some amazing pool workouts that aren’t just about swimming up and down, they’re almost military-style workouts.” Grab rocks from the bottom of the pool, tread water, and keep at it a rock over your head.
Craig, who has coached Rod for 23 years, added that his stage practice has also helped him. “He’s not someone who just stands center stage.” “He’s a little bit like Mick Jagger, the strongest of his age group in entertainment,” he told the outlet.
Rod recently listed his longtime family home in LA for $70 million and, as previously reported, he has the backing for all of his children, including daughters Sarah Streeter, 59, Kimberly, 43, Ruby, 35, and daughters Sarah Streeter, 59 ) and Renee (30). and sons Sean (42), Liam (28), Alastair and Aiden.
To break free from the unhealthy and “toxic” culture of Los Angeles, where Rod felt he had “no privacy”, he has decided to return to his roots in the UK, where Penny worked as a volunteer police officer with the London Police has worked .

Penny (seen at the coronation of King Charles) was inspired to become a special police officer by the television series Famous and Fighting Crime. She completed her training in April 2021
But as well as supporting his wife’s career aspirations, Rod has also chosen to return to the UK knowing his two sons want to be there.
“Also, her boys and Rod’s have no intention of leaving their school and friends in the UK to come to America,” the insider said, referring to his youngest son Alastair and Aiden.
The move represents a major transition for Rod, who has spent nearly five decades commuting back and forth between Los Angeles and his family’s Essex home — a massive estate called Durrington House, which he and Penny bought for 5.8 in 2016 bought millions of dollars.
Rod moved to the City of Angels in 1975 — a decade after beginning his solo career. Shortly after making big leaps, his talent made him a superstar.
During his career he had 11 number one singles and 12 number one albums and sold more than 130 million copies.
“Rod has always considered Britain his home. Los Angeles was all he needed for this time in his life, but it’s obvious he doesn’t like LA anymore. It’s just gotten so toxic and he doesn’t have any privacy in town anymore.”
On May 9, Rod’s daughter, Ruby Otis Stewart, welcomed Kalick with her fiancé, Jake Kalic.
And then days later, on May 12, Rod’s hockey player son, Liam, and his partner, Nicole Ann, announced the arrival of their first son, Louie.
He recently shared photos with his two grandchildren and looked absolutely smitten. As fans know, he is constantly sharing family updates on his social media.
Rod first became a grandfather in 2011 when his daughter Kimberly and actor Benicio Del Toro gave birth to a daughter, Delilah, who is now 11 years old.
