Rogers wants to increase the prices of certain telephone tariffs

Customers of the telecommunications company Rogers can expect an increase in their mobile phone bill from January 17th.

This was confirmed by a Rogers Communications spokesperson, explaining that the price increases would affect certain Rogers packages, but also Fido, Global News reported.

The average price update would be $5 per month for wireless customers, the spokesperson told media.

Customers who see an upward change on their bill have already been notified and will see the change within a few days.

This price increase for certain packages comes less than a year after Rogers approved its merger with Shaw Communications, valued at $26 billion.

Still, when the deal was approved last March, federal Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne argued that the merger would lower the price of wireless service for Canadians.

Freedom Mobile, which has been part of Quebecor since it was acquired by Shaw in the merger, has guaranteed a price freeze.

“With Freedom there is no increase. “We will continue to help Canadians get better prices for wireless services and keep their money to fight inflation,” Pierre Karl Péladeau, president and CEO of Quebecor, said on X on Wednesday.
