Disappointed in her match, disappointed to have accumulated unforced errors, disappointed not to have any feeling for Philippe-Chatrier while she was offered Center Court of Roland-Garros for this confrontation against the 14th favourite.

Above all, however, the disappointment that the good sequence that began when she returned to Stuttgart football after a five-month break finally led her to this result.

After two rounds of 16 and a quarter-final in the weeks leading up to Paris, Andreescu felt he had prepared well for this Grand Slam tournament.

But now the former world No. 4, who fell back to 72 in part due to the downtime she needed to recharge, believes the time has come to return to the drawing board.

“I had some interesting moments in that match but I really don’t know what to say [sur ce qui a cloché dans ce match], explained the 21-year-old Ontarian, visibly dejected. I haven’t really thought about it yet and am trying not to think about it too much at the moment. »

missed boost

The Canadian tried a push at the end of the second set. She was close to making a crucial breakthrough that would have allowed her to extend the fight against Bencic, also a former world fourth. But the damage was already done.

Not the fault of the butterflies

After her first match against Belgian qualifier Ysaline Bonaventure, world No. 168, Andreescu admitted to feeling nervous at the beginning of the game.

Having skipped the Australian Open, she played her first major tournament in nine months in Paris.

But the butterflies were gone yesterday, she said.

“I don’t know what happened. I feel like I’ve done everything I could, but nothing worked,” Andreescu lamented.
